Default template

The plain template that fits any game: four sections, a day counter and no shortcuts.

The Default template is for any single-player game. It uses plain wording, counts days instead of seasons, and adds nothing you did not ask for. Its tint is moss green.

Sections#

SectionWhat it isGuide
TodayWrite here; shows the current day's notes.Looking back
JournalEvery note, grouped by day, with filters.Looking back
PeopleA page per person.People
MapsDraw places and pin markers.Maps
Today in a new Default journal: sidebar with Today, Journal, People and Maps, a Set date button, a note box with options, and the tip about setting the in-game date.
Today in a new Default journal.

There is no Farm section. The Farm address, the g f shortcut and in:farm search do not exist in a Default journal; opening /farm shows a "Not found" page.

The day counter#

Dates are Day 1, Day 2, Day 3… There are no seasons or years to set up. To change today's day, use the date at the top of Today (see Picking a day number). Settings → Calendar simply says that this journal counts days.

  • Search by day with day 12. See Search syntax.
  • Internally the days are stored in blocks of 99, so Day 100 is the first day of "year 2". You never see this.

What it leaves out#

  • No quick actions under the note box. Use the note box's own flags and #, @, [[ and / instead.
  • No suggested tags.

Make it your own#

A Default journal can still be renamed, reordered and trimmed in Settings → Template and sections, for example calling People Characters or hiding Maps. Today and Journal cannot be hidden.

Good for#

  • Story games where you keep track of people, clues and places.
  • Games with a day or turn count but no seasons.
  • Games you do not have a template for, which is most of them.

Tutorials: your first session, solve a mystery and map an area all use this template.
